Four Aces. The Four Aces were created by Hal Forrest (Tailspin Tommy) and appeared in the comic strip “The Four Aces” (1934-1935, 1936-1942).

“The Four Aces” went through two incarnations. Its first version starred four aviators: Larry Gale, an American pilot who flies with the Lafayette Escadrille and his English, French, and Italian friends. The stories described the quartet’s combats with a German stunt flyer known as the Red Baron and Gale’s love affair with Audrey Ward, a blonde American who is an agent of French counterintelligence who poses as a female Germany spy posing as a French spy.

The second incarnation of the strip had the Four Aces competing in various adventures in America and occasionally fighting crime.
