Flood, John. John Flood appeared in a number of stories in The Penny Wonder from 1912 to 1914, beginning with The Penny Wonder #1 (Feb. 7, 1912).
John Flood is a Great Detective. He is a police inspector known as “the River Detective” and “the River Tracker” and is famous for his work along the Thames. He is a consulting detective with offices near a wharf. He is well-regarded by members of Scotland Yard, who are generally incompetent enough to need Flood to solve every case, whether the criminals are smugglers, opium addicts, Yellow Peril Chinese crimelords, or French assassins. Flood patrols the Thames in his boat Vigilant, and is assisted by Solomon, his black cat.
