Fletcher, Johnny. Johnny Fletcher was created by Frank Gruber (Otis Beagle, Simon Lash, Captain March, Oliver Quade, Jim Strong, Sam Vedder, John Vedders) and appeared in fourteen novels and at least three stories and story serials and a radio show from 1940 to 1964, beginning with French Key. Johnny Fletcher is a Con Man. Johnny Fletcher and Sam Cragg are a pair of con men who sell muscle-building books for a living. Unfortunately, the pair are both ambitious and hapless, and are continually embroiled in murder cases which they are forced to solve to remain free. Fletcher is the brains of the duo, and is light-hearted, talkative, and clever. Cragg is the stronger of the pair and handles the muscle work.
