Fafhrd & the Gray Mouser. Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser were created by Fritz Leiber and appeared in thirty-six stories and seven novels and short story collections from 1939 to 1988, beginning with “Two Sought Adventure” (Unknown, Aug. 1939). Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser are a pair of heroes who brawl and wench their way across the fantasy world of Newhon. Fafhrd is a tall barbarian from the North with reddish-blond hair. He is good-natured and a stout fighter. The Gray Mouser is a small, unhandsome rogue and thief who is genially cynical and is deadly with both knife and sword. They live in the sprawling, dangerous city of Lankhmar but venture outside of it and even to Earth. Both Fafhrd and the Mouser have wizards for advisors: Fafhrd is guided by Ningauble of the Seven Eyes, and the Mouser by Sheelba of the Eyeless Face. The two sorcerers are rivals but look after Fafhrd and the Mouser.
