Emory, Jason. Jason Emory was created by “Kootz,” the pseudonym of Samuel Melvin Kootz, and appeared in Puzzle in Paint (1943) and Puzzle in Petticoats (1944).

Jason Emory is the short (5'4") owner of an art studio in Manhattan. “Ribald, irreverent, and breezy,” he is “highly respected as a competent man-about-the-world of art” as well as a successful ladies’ man. He is consulted by the police, especially his friend, Homicide Captain Thomas, on cases involving art, especially art which might have been forged or smuggled into the United States from Occupied Europe.
