Ebbs, Judge Alan. Judge Alan Ebbs was created by Frederick Irving Anderson (Oliver Armiston, Godahl, Sophie Lang, Deputy Parr) and appeared in a number of stories in American Cavalcade in 1937, beginning with “At Early Candlelight” (American Cavalcade, May 1937).

Judge Alan Ebbs is a well-known judge who comes out of retirement to cover for another judge. Ebbs resumes his traditional practice of investigating the cases in front of him, so that those who might otherwise be unfairly convicted are freed. He is an old man and is small, clever, and observant.
