The Eagle (I). The Eagle (I) was created by Eugene B. Lewis, H.C. Warnack, and Elmer Clifton (The Shark) and appeared in the film The Eagle (1918).

The Eagle (I) is a Costumed Avenger. After John Gregory’s mother dies of a broken heart, due to the Gregory family’s fortune having been stolen from them by a mining company, Gregory becomes “the Eagle,” a masked thief preying on the mining company. Gregory is eventually captured and convicted for a murder he did not commit, but he is finally freed thanks to the efforts of Lucy, the girl that he loves.
