Duval, Claude (III). Claude Duval (1643-1670) was a French highwayman who robbed stagecoaches in England. He was famous for always acting in a gentlemanly manner toward his victims. He appeared in the French dime novel Claude Duval, Ou Le Temps Des Puritains D’Angleterre #1-50 (1910-1912).
The fictional version of Duval is portrayed sentimentally, ahistorically, and as a Gentleman Bandit equally active in England and in France.
Duval appears in stories with titles like “The Haunted Crypt,” “The Claw of the Panther,” and “On the Path of Death.”
