Duval, Claude (I). Claude Duval (1643-1670) was a French highwayman who robbed stagecoaches in England. He was famous for always acting in a gentlemanly manner toward his victims. He appeared in Claude Duval Library #1-48 (1902-1906), written by “Charlton Lea,” the pseudonym of Alfred S. Burrage (Spring-Heeled Jack).

The fictional version of Duval is a Gentleman Bandit, (ahistorically) friends with Dick Turpin and a number of other famous highwayman, and is portrayed in a sentimental manner at odds with the historical record.
