Dukun. In Malaysian myth a dukun is a witch doctor. In 1924 a dukun appeared in the Indonesian novel Njonja Tjhan Hoei Atawa “Djadi Korban Goena-Goena”, written by the pseudonymical “Venus.”
In Njonja Tjan Hoei is the wife of a bank manager. Tjan’s husband has a mistress and treats Tjan badly, and to take revenge Tjan approaches a dukun and asks him to use his magic to make the lovers fall out of love. He does, but then uses his magic to make Tjan fall in love with him.
