Downey, Corporal Cameron. Corporal Cameron Downey was created by James B. Hendryx (Connie Morgan, Black John Smith) and appeared in forty stories and serials and thirteen novels from 1919 to 1952, beginning with “The Gold Girl” (All-Story Weekly, Dec 27 1919-Jan 31 1920).
Corporal Cameron Downey is a stalwart member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police who patrols the Yukon, near the Yukon-Alaska border. As a child he was responsible for the capture of the Yorktown bank robbers, but soon after joining the Mounties his girlfriend was killed, and he refused a promotion for many years afterward, until he met another woman. Downey is taciturn, but is honest and a good policeman. He also appears in the Black John Smith stories and novels.
