Dorkin, Dreamy. Dreamy Dorkin was created by S. Omar Barker (Hinges Hollister) and appeared in five stories in Wild West Weekly in 1940, beginning with “A Bear for Cowboyin’” (Wild West Weekly, May 18, 1940).
Dreamy Dorkin is a sixteen-year-old ranch hand who dreams of being a sheriff, but can’t, because you have to be twenty-one years old to wear the badge. He’s impatient and doesn’t want to wait the five years, and gets involved in other things, like trying to leave the ranch and go off to college, but crimes keep intruding. He can be grim under fire, and is sidekicked by the small, happy Mexican ranch hand Chato.
