Dollent, Jean. Jean Dollent was created by the French author Georges Simenon (Monsieur Froget, Yves Jarry, Joseph Leborgne, Jules Maigret, Monsieur Sancette) and appeared in thirteen short stories which were collected in Le Petit Docteur (1943).

Jean Dollent is a French country doctor, in the small, rural town of Charente, who feels he has a knack for detection and begins solving crimes to prove his point. Dollent shares Jules Maigret’s intelligence but is his opposite in personality, being genial and optimistic.
