Dolittle, Doctor. Doctor Dolittle was created by Hugh Lofting and appeared in twelve novels from 1920 to 1952, beginning with The Story of Doctor Dolittle; Dolittle has also appeared in plays, radio programs, television programs, and films. Doctor Dolittle is a Superhuman. Doctor John Dolittle lives in the British village of Puddleby-on-the-Marsh. He much prefers animals to people, and abandons his medical practice to be around his pets. One day his parrot, Polynesia, teaches him how to speak the languages of various animals, and in this way Dolittle learns how to communicate with various species. Dolittle has a series of adventures around the world and on the Moon, accompanied by Polynesia, Chee-Chee the Monkey, Gub-Gub the Pig, Dab-Dab the Duck, Jip the Dog, Too-Too the Owl, and the rare Pushmi-Pullyu.
