De la Cloche, James. James de la Cloche (1644?-1669?) was the illegitimate son of Charles II of England, a Jesuit seminarian, and then the husband of a Neapolitan woman. Or de la Cloche may not have existed at all; his existence has not been confirmed. James de la Cloche appeared in No Common Glory (1941) and Grand Design (1944), both written by David Pilgrim, as a sentimentalized version of the “real” man.
