Dane, Bartholomew. Bartholomew Dane was created by Rex Dark and appeared in eight novels from 1936 to 1940, beginning with The Ming Vase Mystery.
Bartholomew Dane is “tall, athletic, and gentlemanly,” but despite that description he is also a private detective intimately acquainted with the mean streets of Soho and those who make their living in London’s underworld. He is gentlemanly, but he can be hard when necessary, and is good with both his fists and his mind. He assists and is assisted by his friend, Detective-Inspector Sam Thackeray, on various cases, from ordinary murder cases to Yellow Perils to German spies.
