Cummings, Chief Inspector. Chief Inspector Cummings was created by Paul McGuire (Superintendent Fillinger, Inspector Wittler) and appeared in five novels from 1931 to 1935, beginning with Murder in Bostall.
Chief Inspector Cummings is a London policeman who solves crimes in the City, occasionally with the aid of his assistant Sergeant, later Inspector Wittler and Inspector, later Superintendent Fillinger. Cummings is thoughtful, personable, observant, and so fastidious in his dress that he is “rather a joke at the Yard,” although his fellows like and respect him regardless.
