The Crusher. The Crusher appeared in a number of stories in The Rover in 1940 beginning with “Britain’s Secret Weapon” (The Rover, 1940).

The Crusher is the invention of a British inventor. It is a giant steel ball, thirty feet high and covered with spikes. It is self-propelled and controlled by a crew of three in a gyroscopically balanced room inside the Crusher. The Crusher is used to defend Britain and then to carry the attack into occupied Europe, wiping out German tanks and grounded bombers.
