Croker, Danby. Danby Croker was created by R. Austin Freeman (Humphrey Challoner, Phyllis Dudley, Romney Pringle, Doctor Thorndyke, Dr. Wilkinson) and appeared in thirteen stories in The Red Magazine in 1911, beginning with “The Changeling” (The Red Magazine, Feb. 15, 1911). Danby Croker is a Con Man. Danby Croker is artistic, educated, well-bred, humorous, and competent. He is also a skilled forger, swindler, and counterfeiter. (“Danby Croker” is not his real name). After a successful career of crime he is felled by true love and reforms.
