Craine, Paul. Paul Craine was created by Eugene P. Healy and appeared in Craine’s First Case (1939) and Mister Sandeman Loses His Life (1940).
Paul Craine is a struggling writer in New York City who carries on a lively flirtation with his might-be-might-not-be girlfriend Betty. Life has several unexpected complications in store for them both, however, and they end up solving crimes together, as much to save Paul’s skin as out of any desire to see that justice is done. They assist and are assisted by Detective Rocheleau.
