Court, Gripton. Gripton Court was created by “Stephen H. Agnew,” in this case the pseudonym of James Edward Crabtree, and appeared in a number of stories in Sparks and Nugget Library and three novels from 1915 to 1920, beginning with “Black Magic” (Sparks, 1915). Gripton Court is a Great Detective modeled on Sexton Blake. Court is based in London and is assisted by his office boy, Joe Sparks, a red-haired stable hand and conjuror for Enrico’s Circus.
