Colton, Thornley. Thornley Colton was created by C.H. Stagg and appeared in nine short stories, one novel, and one story collection from 1913 to 1923, beginning with “The Keyboard of Silence” (People’s Ideal Fiction Magazine, Feb. 1913).
Thornley Colton is a Disabled Detective. He is a blind private detective, somewhere between Max Carrados and Captain Dunclan Maclain in abilities. Colton has been "totally blind since birth" but overcame his disability to succeed as a musician, man-about-town, and detective, though assisted in some tasks by his secretary. He trained his other senses to overcompensate for his blindness, and now has "wonderfully sharp ears" and "super-sensitive fingertips."
