Clifford, Bob. Bob Clifford was created by Leroy Scott and appeared in seven stories and three novels and short story collections from 1916 to 1926, beginning with Partners of the Night.
Lt. Detective Bob Clifford of the N.Y.P.D. is “sea-bronzed,” forceful, knowledgeable, and well-traveled. He is a Yale graduate who went into the police force (much to the surprise and good-natured derision of his friends) because he was sure that a man like himself could advance in the force and do much good there. He is correct in this assumption, although he faces some career reversals before triumphing in the end. He is a hard-working policeman in a realistic New York City, dealing with realistic crimes.
