Cleve & d’Entreville. Cleve & d’Entreville were created by Murray Montgomery and appeared in eight stories in Argosy from 1938 to 1942, beginning with “A Sword for the Cardinal” (Argosy, Mar. 26, 1938).

Cleve & d’Entreville are Cape-and-Épée Heroes. Richard Cleve is a member of the King’s Guard; the young, elegant, poem-writing Monsieur le Comte Guy d’Entreville is a reluctant member of Cardinal Richelieu’s Guard. Together, they have adventures around France in the 17th century.
