Charlebois, Henri Raoul. Henri Raoul Charlebois was created by Frank L. Packard (Gray Seal, Rhoda Gray) and appeared in nineteen stories in People’s Ideal Fiction Magazine and one story collection in 1912 and 1913, beginning with “Tales from the Red Ledger” (People’s Ideal Fiction, Jan. 1912). In a room in a mansion sits a fiery old man with a great red ledger, in which he has set down a list of injustices performed, debts owed, and debts to be collected. Once poor, now rich, the old man, Henri Raoul Charlebois, sends his operatives out, including the delectable Orchid, to settle the accounts in the red ledger.
