Carson, Billy. Billy Carson was created by Joseph O’Donnell (Rex Bennett, Lightnin’ Bill Carson, Tim Caverly, Masked Phantom) and appeared in twenty-three films from 1943 to 1946, beginning with Devil Riders. A crooked lawyer and his pals are trying to steal land that is meant for a stagecoach company. The company’s friendly rival is Billy Carson, who runs the Pony Express. The lawyer tries to provoke a quarrel between the stagecoach company and Carson, and then frames Carson for the murder of the stagecoach company’s owner. Carson clears his name and then goes on to have a wide range of adventures, fighting lynchers, supposed ghosts, and swindlers. Carson is assisted by Fuzzy Jones, former sidekick to Billy the Kid.
