Carmody, Honest John. Honest John Carmody was created by E. Hoffmann Price (Pâwang Ali, Pierre d’Artois, Cliff Cragin, Don Cragston, Saul Epstein, Glenn Farrell, Simon Bolivar Grimes, Glenn Haley, Ishmeddin, Jim KaneMatalaa,  Average Parker, Dr. Zeng Tse-lin) and appeared in at least fourteen stories in a variety of pulps from 1938 to 1953, beginning with “Honest John” (Private Detective Stories, May 1938).

Honest John Carmody is a private detective in San Francisco. He’s new to the area, and isn’t particularly well known, but his manner inspires confidence in those customers who don’t know of him. He is big, good-looking, and moves well.
