Carew. Bampfylde Moore Carew (1693-1758), the son of an English rector, was the author of The Life and Adventures of Bampfylde Moore Carew (1745), a picaresque autobiography. In the book Carew claimed to have become The King of the Beggars. He appeared as the hero of the Spanish dime novel Carew. El Rey de los Giatanos #1-5? (1931?).

Carew portrays Carew in far more lighthearted, romanticized, and sentimental terms than the real Carew.
