Careless, Captain. Captain Careless was created by Van Harrison (Galloping Larry) and appeared in six stories in The 20 Story Magazine in 1936 and 1937, beginning with “The Treasure of Harry the Red” (The 20 Story Magazine, Sept, 1936).

Captain John Careless is a South Seas Adventurer. He is a freebooter and adventurer who takes treasure where he can find it and works honestly, shipping freight, when he can’t. To do so, he uses the three-masted, silver-grey schooner Grey Ghost, and sails all over the Pacific, from San Francisco to the uncharted reaches of the South Seas. Careless is the descendant of a British pirate, and is a tall, “square-built” man with an exceptionally loud voice and an exceptionally stout right hook.
