Captain Combat. Captain Combat was created by “Barry Barton,” the pseudonym of Robert J. Hogan (Greaseball Joe, G-8, Red Falcon, Secret Six, Smoke Wade, Wu Fang (III)), and appeared Captain Combat #1-3 (1940).

Captain William Combat is an American fighter pilot. During the early days of World War Two he is assigned to the R.A.F.–unofficially, of course, as the American government cannot officially be involved against the Germans. Combat gladly goes, as he hates the Germans; his mother was fatally wounded by machine gun fire from a German airplane that was pursuing them as they escaped from Berlin. Combat flies a Hawker Hurricane for the 42nd Home Defense Squadron, and his arch-enemy is the German pilot Secret Agent 36.
