Campbell, Humphrey. Humphrey Campbell was created by “Geoffrey Homes,” the pseudonym of Daniel Mainwaring (Robin Bishop, Jose Manuel Madero), and appeared in five novels from 1938 to 1944, beginning with Then There Were Three; he also appeared in two films.

Humphrey Campbell is a private detective who works as an agent for the Morgan Missing Persons Bureau detective agency in Los Angeles. Campbell’s boss is the fat, lazy, and corrupt Oscar Morgan. Campbell is similarly large, though not corrupt. He drinks milk and plays the accordion and is not hard-boiled, although he will fight and kill if he must. He teams up with Robin Bishop in Then There Were Three.
