Cain, Captain. Captain Cain was created by Percy Westerman (Alan Carr, Vladimir Klinkov, Mishka Kotovsky, Colin Standish) and appeared in The Pirate Submarine (1923) and Captain Cain (1924).

Captain Cain is a submarine pirate based on Jules Verne’s Captain Nemo. “Captain Cain” is actually Ambrose Alhampton, a Lieutenant-Commander in the British Royal Navy who is unjustly convicted of forgery. Alhampton leaves England in disgrace and resurfaces in Paraquil del Norte, engineering his way to the office of the Presidente, but he is betrayed and forced to flee. With nowhere left to go, he turns to piracy, and pilots the technologically-advanced submarine Alerte on a series of raids on surface shipping around the Atlantic. He avoids sinking British shipping, although after Cain fights French, German, and Spanish warships the British join in attacking him. Cain’s life is further complicated by the appearance of two interfering young British sailors, Broadmayne and Vyse, and by lily-livered mutineers among his crew.
