Brother Henry. Brother Henry was created by “Wayne Rogers,” the pseudonym for A.H. Bittner (Andrew Magee, Dodo Temple) and appeared in seven stories in The Spider from 1937 to 1940, beginning with “Murder’s Silver Lining” (The Spider, Apr. 1937). Brother Henry is a balding, heavy-set, fifty-year-old man who is the handyman and general guardian of the Mission and Community House in Five Corners in New York. He is a placid, kind man, but unfortunately he keeps encountering brutal kidnappings and murders and has to solve them before more people get hurt. Brother Henry’s assistant and legman is John Smith.
