Brent, Ted. Ted Brent was created by the Czech author Eduard Fiker (Black Lightning, Hepsibah Bock, Inspector Cadek) and appeared in Ochránce nebohych (1933), Svetlo z pekla (1935), and Pán stínu (1948).

Brent is a famous English felon who takes in escaped convicts and other criminals, giving them the means to form gangs but also, when necessary, to free themselves from the criminal lifestyle. (It is this latter behavior that earns Brent the title “Defender of the Poor”). For this he is pursued by Scotland Yard detective T.B. Corn and his assistant Jerome Hogathem across England, and Africa, first in search of sunken treasure and then working together against the Nazi spy master known as “The Lord of Shadows.”
