Bradley, Luke. Luke Bradley was created by “Hugh Pentecost,” a pseudonym of Judson Philips (Mark Chandler, Danny Coyle, Park Avenue Hunt Club, John Smith (III), Ivy Trask, Carole Trevor), and appeared in five novels and novelettes from 1939 to 1947, beginning with Cancelled in Red.

Luke Bradley is a “husky, red-faced, bull-necked” police Inspector with the New York City Homicide Division. He usually has a belligerent manner, but when on a case he smokes a pipe and thoughtfully examines the crime scene and the evidence. He has grey eyes and can be disconcertingly direct in his examination of witnesses and suspects. He often appears to clean up the messes caused by the overconfident private detective Larry Storm.
