Jack Bowden is a big game hunter and adventurer who fights Indians, hunts big game along the equator, visits the Caliph of Madras, discovers a secret tunnel under the Sphinx, fights cannibals, cleans out an opium den in Hong Kong run by a Yellow Peril, and fights the Red Mexicans, among other exploits, which include discovering "the People under the Mountain," and visiting "the Oasis of Death."

Bowden appears in stories with titles like “Buried Alive,” “The White Chief,” and “On a Pyre.”
