Borak, El. El Borak was created by Robert E. Howard (Pike Bearfield, Conan, Steve Costigan, De Montour, Breckenridge Elkins, Steve Harrison, Solomon Kane, Kull, Bran Mak Morn, Turlogh O’Brien, Kirby O’Donnell) and appeared in five stories from 1934 to 1936, beginning with “The Daughter of Erlik Khan” (Top-Notch, Dec. 1934).
Francis X. Gordon is a Texan who left America for Central Asia. He’s a wandering adventurer who is given the name “El Borak” (the swift) by the tribes of Central Asia because of his speed with sword and gun. He fights Russian spies as a freelance hire of the British Secret Service, he fights a modern version of the Assassins in the “Land of Ghouls,” he fights the Black Tigers in the “Pass of Swords,” and during World War One he fights alongside T.E. Lawrence.
