Blane, Torchy. Torchy Blane was created by Frederick Nebel (Sgt. Brinkhaus, Jack Cardigan, Donny Donahue, Drifting Kid, Steve MacBride, Gales & McGill, Gwenn McKay, Corporal Tyson), Kenneth Gamet, and Don Ryan and appeared in nine films from 1936 to 1939, beginning with Smart Blonde.

When Warner Brothers filmed Nebel’s “No Hard Feelings,” which had starred Steve MacBride and his sidekick John X. Kennedy, a decision was made to change the alcoholic Kennedy into a spunky, sassy, and smart reporter named Torchy Blane. Blane proved to be popular enough to carry eight more films. She is independent, resourceful, and fast-talking.
