Black Falcon. The Black Falcon was created by Arthur J. Burks (Professor Barter, Duff Braden, Jack Brady, Edward D’Strange, Harlan Dyce, The Guillotine, David Haslup, Eddie Kelly, Josh McNab, Dorus Noel, Allan Swain) and appeared in six stories in Sky Fighters from 1933 to 1936, beginning with “The Black Falcon” (Sky Fighters, Oct. 1933).
The Black Falcon is a Costumed Avenger. Evan Post is a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force during World War One. Post is fast and “reptile-like” as a pilot, and has “hawk-like eyes, black and grim,” but he has a “Quaker conscience” and dislikes killing, especially those who can’t fight back. This is why, if at all possible, he shoots down elite German pilots rather than recon planes. Despite his hatred of war, when he puts on a “black helm” and flies his Spad, which bears the insignia of a black falcon, he becomes “an emotionless striker like the hammer of Thor.” He flies with nine other pilots, the “Condors.”
