Black Corsair. The Black Corsair was created by the French author Jean de La Hire (Paul Ardent, Athos, Porthos & Aramis, Boy Scout, Franc-Hardi, Nyctalope, Joe Rollon, Three Boy Scouts, Two Kids) and appeared in Le Corsaire Sous-Marin #1-79 (1912-1913).
The Black Corsair is a 20th century take on Jules Verne’s Captain Nemo. The Corsair is a misanthropic pirate who pilots a large, technologically-advanced submarine, The Cyclops, and wars on the surface world. Opposing him are a French naval officer, Girard, and his fourteen-year-old Parisian nephew Jean l’Auguille.
The Black Corsair appears in stories with titles like “The Theft of the Submarine,” “The Phantom Plane,” and “In the Abyss.”
