Bishop, Captain Jack. Captain Jack Bishop was created by A.M. Burrage (Francis Chard, Clive Dorry, Panther Grayle, Derek Scarfe) and appeared in “Pistol and Spur” (The Weekly Tale-Teller, Feb 24-May 1912). Captain Jack Bishop is a Gentleman Bandit. He “had wished to see a Stuart rather than a German reigning over the land, and had drawn my sword for the young Prince over the water.” He failed, and so turned cut-purse and fly-by-night. But he is truly a Gentleman of the Road, and has a number of adventures in which he demonstrates that, though a highwayman, he is far more Dick Turpin than the smyler with the knyf under the cloke.
