Billy the Kid (II). William H. Bonney (1859-1881), née Henry McCarty, was a violent, hot-tempered shootist who became famous only after his death, when the man who killed him, Sheriff Patrick Garrett, published a sensationalist “biography” of Bonney, giving him the name he is best known as: “Billy the Kid.” A highly fictionalized version of Billy the Kid was created by Oliver Drake (Rough Riders) and appeared in nineteen films from 1940 to 1943.
The fictional version of Billy the Kid is unwillingly involved in the machinations of local politicians and is driven to wander the West, accompanied by his best friends Fuzzy Jones (who later teams up with Billy Carson) and Jeff Travis.
