Billy the Kid (I). William H. Bonney, née Henry McCarty (1859-1881), was one of the Old West’s most infamous outlaws. He appeared in a variety of pulps and dime novels from the 1880s through the 1940s. Guy Maynard (Señor Red Mask, Jim Tasker) wrote a ten-story series in Wild West Weekly in 1936 and 1937, beginning with “Trail Pardners” (Wild West Weekly, Feb. 29, 1936), in which Billy the Kid and his red-haired partner Flame Burns are more heroic gunslingers than history shows the Kid to have been.
