Bernard, Paul. Paul Bernard was created by Sinclair Gluck (Jack Clayton, Ross McCoy) and appeared in Last Trap (1928) and Shadow in the House (1929).

Paul Bernard is a Killer Vigilante. Bernard is a “government detective,” “famous on two continents,” who has retired to a house in a quiet town. He is friendly to the young women in the town and gruff to the men. But when murder is committed in town, he takes actions to solve it, with the help of the town’s young police officer. Of course, the police officer eventually discovers that the murder victim, and his murderer, were both evil men, and that Bernard engineered the crime so that both men, who he had been tracking for years, would be removed from society. But the police officer likes Bernard and so does not arrange for his arrest.
