Beerman, Hymie. Hymie Beerman was created by “Parker Bonner,” the pseudonym of Willis Todhunter Ballard (Jimmy DeHaven, Red Drake, Bill Lennox, Tomaso Sherman), and appeared in twelve stories in Detective Tales from 1945 to 1948, beginning with “Murder on the Meter” (Detective Tales, Dec. 1945).
Hymie is a cab driver and amateur detective in New York City. He solves crimes he witnesses and those involving his fares. "Hymie's the original Brooklyn Bum, the one Willard Mullin drew his Dodger cartoons about...Hymie is a short man with a thick body and very little neck. He looks a little like a friendly frog."
