Beagle, Amanda and Lutie. Amanda and Lutie Beagle were created by Torney Chanslor and appeared in Our First Murder (1940) and Our Second Murder (1941). Amanda and Lutie Beagle are a pair of Spinster Detectives. They are both prim, elderly spinsters, but following the death of their estranged brother Ezekiel they inherit his New York City detective agency and decide to continue his work. To do this they have to move from East Biddicut, Connecticut, to New York City, something neither one of them is happy about--but that's where the job is, and that's where the murders are, so that's where they go. Amanda is a hard-headed pragmatist; Lutie is a fan of hard-boiled detective fiction and carries a pearl-handled revolver.
