Bayard, Francis. Francis Bayard was created by “Jean des Marchenelles,” the pseudonym of the French author Jean Dancoine, and appeared in at least one novel and at least twenty stories in Police-Privée from 1938 to 1945, beginning with Un Coupable de Trop.

Francis Bayard is a French private detective whose adventures occasionally verge on the fantastic, as in “Les Catacombes Infernales,” when Bayard explores a series of caverns inhabited by giant spiders.
