Baumgart, Johannes. Johannes Baumgart was created by the German author Bruno Hans Buergel and appeared in Der Stern von Afrika (1921).

Cosmic dust has swept across the Earth, triggering a new Ice Age. Humanity has relocated to Africa and become half-Black, half-white, but even there the race is dying out. Astronomer Johannes Baumgart believes that the moon once hosted a race whose technology was advanced enough to resist the effects of the dust. Baumgart rediscovers the secret of interstellar travel, and overcomes the opposition of the United States of Africa and the United States of Europe. But Baumgart’s rocket crashes on the moon and no cure for the dust is found.
