Bangs, Blackstone. Blackstone Bangs was created by “Dean McKinley,” the pseudonym of Allan Bosworth (Roy Bean, Shorty Masters), and appeared in fourteen stories in Wild West Weekly in 1938 and 1939, beginning with “Blackstone Bangs—Gun Lawyer” (Wild West Weekly, Apr. 23, 1938).

Roy Bean is holding court as usual at the Jersey Lily Saloon when he is confronted by the ferocious lawyer, Blackstone Bangs, whose skill with the law books is matched by his ability with his fists and guns. Bragg foils Roy Bean’s schemes and goes on to practice law and gunplay in a variety of towns on the American frontier. In at least one story he encounters Billy West.
