Bacon, George. George Bacon was created by Oscar J. Friend (Philip MacCray) and appeared in a number of stories in Thrilling Western, beginning with “The Thousand-Dollar Saddle” (Thrilling Western, Nov. 1944).
George Bacon is a saddle maker on the American frontier: “Bacon was the best saddle maker in seven counties and he knew more about range equipment and cowboy rigging than any other man in the town of Boomer.” He uses his knowledge of saddles and leather to solve crimes.
